Help
Answers to the questions we hear most. Most of the settings below are in the app's Settings: tap your profile picture (or the gear) at the top right of the main screens. Can't find your answer? Contact us.
I didn't get the sign-in code
- Look in your Spam or Promotions folder.
- The code works for 1 hour. If it has run out, tap Resend code in the app.
- Check that the email address you typed is right.
Using Chalkroll without signing in
- Tap Continue without signing in on the sign-in screen. Everything stays on the phone, and nothing about you is sent to us.
- To sign in later, open Settings and tap Sign in. The students and lessons already on the phone stay.
- This option is here so testers can try the app quickly. It may be removed in a later version.
Where are my students and lessons kept?
On your phone only. We don't receive them and can't see them. Your Chalkroll account keeps just your name, your email address and how you signed in. Because of this, uninstalling the app or clearing its storage deletes your students, lessons and payments — unless you have a backup file.
Back up and restore
- Backups are not made automatically. In Settings, open Backup and restore and tap Create backup file. Save the file to Google Drive or send it to yourself.
- We recommend Protect with a password, because the file holds student details. The password can't be recovered if you forget it.
- To restore, tap Choose backup file. Everything on the phone is replaced with the backup.
Moving to a new phone
- On the old phone, create a backup file and save it to Google Drive, or send it to yourself.
- On the new phone, install Chalkroll and sign in with the same account.
- In Settings, open Backup and restore, tap Choose backup file and pick the file.
Showing lessons in Google Calendar
- In Settings, open Google Calendar, turn it on and choose a calendar. Lessons for the next 8 weeks appear there.
- It works one way: changes you make in Google Calendar don't come back to Chalkroll.
- Event titles contain only the student's name. Addresses, phone numbers and fees are not added.
- To keep lessons in their own calendar, open calendar.google.com in a browser, tap + next to Other calendars and create one. Then tap Refresh list in the app.
- Lessons at the wrong time? Check your phone's time zone (phone Settings → System → Date & time). Chalkroll uses the phone's time zone.
Lesson reminders
- In Settings, open Lesson reminders and choose how early you want to be reminded.
- Allow Notifications for Chalkroll. If Exact alarms is not allowed, reminders may arrive a few minutes late.
Deleting your account
See Delete your account. Deleting also erases the Chalkroll data on that phone, so create a backup file first if you might need it.
